I like this line from Kristoff in yesterday’s NYT
But Israel’s right to do something doesn’t mean it has the right to do anything.
Indeed.
He goes on to say:
Since the shelling from Gaza started in 2001, 20 Israeli civilians have been killed by rockets or mortars, according to a tabulation by Israeli human rights groups. That doesn’t justify an all-out ground invasion that has killed more than 660 people (it’s difficult to know how many are militants and how many are civilians).
Worth reading in its entirety.
I wonder, is there a sea change afoot with respect to U.S. support for Israel? My perception is that a lot of Americans are very pissed off about what has occured this past week…

I’ll be honest, I find Meryl a little shrill at times and, on the whole, she is a traitor to the liberal cause she once supported over this single issue (how does being a liberal Israel supporter somehow translate into right wing excusing nut on domestic politics?), but I think this link is absolutely right:

Preparations for my relocation are stepping up, so my comments should be less frequent over the next couple of weeks, but I’m still reading.
