Limbaugh (the wind bag): “I hope Obama fails.”
“Are conservative talk-show hosts eager to go on the attack, after years of defending Bush?” asks the Louisville Courier-Journal’s Larry Muhammad. The answer is clearly yes.
Barack Obama has not yet taken office, and Rush Limbaugh is already rooting for his failure. On his radio show last Friday, Limbaugh said, “I disagree fervently with the people on our [Republican] side of the aisle who have caved and who say, ‘Well, I hope he succeeds.’”
Limbaugh told his listeners that he was asked by “a major American print publication” to offer a 400-word statement explaining his “hope for the Obama presidency.” He responded:
So I’m thinking of replying to the guy, “Okay, I’ll send you a response, but I don’t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.” (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here’s the point. Everybody thinks it’s outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, “Oh, you can’t do that.” Why not? Why is it any different, what’s new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what’s gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don’t care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it.

ThinkProgress.org: "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails"…
Wind. Bag.
Huge wind bag. What a great American!……
January 20th, 2009 11:59
He’s being silly. The fact that he differs ideologoically from Obama might lead him to say that I think his policies are failing policies, but what a moron to say I hope that he fails in general. stupid.
January 20th, 2009 12:00
He needs obama to fail. Rush doesn’t succeed unless democrats are in trouble. No one wants to listen to railing against successful policies and decisions, after all.
January 20th, 2009 12:09
Let me educate you idiots. Obama campaigned on “change”. If his goal is to nationalize (and ruin) our healthcare system, punish the productive people in this country by raising their taxes, transfer weath to those who don’t produce, make us more dependent on foreign sources of energy, etc., then yes, I want him to fail.
January 20th, 2009 12:10
CT, you’re an idiot. Go away. This is a day of celebration, not stupidity. Go back to Michelle Malkin, Rush, Hannity, and the other America-haters.
January 20th, 2009 12:12
Scholar: Truth hurts, doesn’t it?
January 20th, 2009 12:13
You tell me, America hater.
Bitter already I see.
I love it!
January 20th, 2009 12:18
I hope the kool-aid tasted good!
January 20th, 2009 12:19
How does it feel to be an America hater on such a great day?
January 20th, 2009 12:26
Not sure. Ask your buddies Jeramiah (G D America) Wright, Bill (Terrorist) Ayers, Dick (American Troops = Nazis) Durbin, Harry (The Iraq war is lost) Reid, Ted (Abu Grahib has new management) Kennedy, etc. etc….
January 20th, 2009 12:27
Haha, it sounds like someone really hates to lose. Get used to it, buddy. Republicans are *done*.
January 20th, 2009 12:30
Buck, are you gay? I am. And you and Rush are insulting to me. I hope he OD’s on oxycontin.
January 20th, 2009 12:47
Hey there CT, I am a Black Republican in exile. I do hope all of the socialistic platforms fail…I hope government intrusion on private citizens fail…I am African American Republican…and I am now “TRULY” a minority!!!
January 20th, 2009 13:04
Scholar, you can’t have it both ways…you can’t be partisan but require all conservatives to remain bi-partisan. Stop being a hypoctrite, it’s not very flatering.
January 20th, 2009 13:10
It’s not simply partisan to say you want to see the president fail; it’s unAmerican.
January 20th, 2009 13:33
Anyone who is bashing Limbaugh for saying this is obviously too stupid to understand what he meant. He doesn’t wish anything bad for the country, he doesn’t wish for the USA to fail…He wishes for Obama’s Socialist/Liberal agenda to fail. And he is correct. Obama wants the same things that Carter wanted and Carter was a huge failure. Personally I would have said that I want Obama to succeed, but only if he converts over to the right. Big government, race qualified programs, wealth redistribution..etc are all liberal ideals and are all horrible news for this country. The democrats are failures at all they do, which is why two of the greatest American leaders Abe Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were Republicans.
January 20th, 2009 13:36
LOL, intelligent analysis there, Freddie. Democrats are failures, which is why two presidents were Republican. Classic!
Do me a favor: write to your town and ask for your taxes back. The public high school you went to did you a disservice; you didn’t learn anything.
January 20th, 2009 13:43
It’s unAmerican to compare our troops to Pol Pot, Nazis, Soviet Gulag troops; to say publicly we can’t win a war, it is lost; to bomb the pentagon, stand on the American flag; to claim the president lied. It’s fine for someone in the media to say he lied, but for congressman to say it is dispicable. All you libs CAN’T STAND the fact that this country has been safe from terrorists attacks for the last 7+ years. I will agree with Scholar in saying the republicans will keep losing. It’s because they’ve abandoned conservative principles (led by President Bush). There have been 3 conservative campaigns the last 30 years: 1980, 1984, and 1994 – all won by landslides. The libs can’t say that. Bill Clinton NEVER got 50% of the vote and Obama had a very, very weak opponent (a non-conservative “republican”).
January 20th, 2009 14:30
Hey Scholar in Training–How successful is Rush Limbaugh? Pretty successful, right? You claim that Rush needs Democrats to fail in order for him to continue experiencing success. What does his current success tell you? I know you’re a “scholar”, so it should tell you that Dem policies are failures. Even Bush was “Liberal Lite”, and although I agree with him on Foreign policy, domestically he caved to Dems in a variety of areas. Now look where we are–but Rush, still successful! And undoubtedly, with Obama coming in to spend and tax, Rush’s star is just beginning to rise!!
January 20th, 2009 14:33
Fred is absolutely correct in what Rush originally said on his program. He does not want the socialist policies of Obama to succeed. True to liberal form, you attack Fred’s education. He must be stupid to believe the way he does. How inclusive, liberal scholar!! So, ignorance is intolerable unless it comes from over half of the members of your own party?
January 20th, 2009 14:50
Scholar in Training – Rush wants socialism to fail and if you were the scholar you say you are, you would have understood that.
How about the racist Pastor who ended the swearing in ceremony with his racist rant …. he not only insulted all Americans by his so called prayer, but also his half black/half WHITE President. That is not the way to bring a country together.
January 20th, 2009 14:55
LOL, look at all the people coming forward to defend Rush. Sheesh.. not even Yankees Fan did that.
That kool aid must be realllly sweet. None of this aspartame or splenda crap.. real sugar, baby.
January 20th, 2009 15:11
Scholar in need of training.
Rush does not need defending. In America, we are allowed to voice opinions that agree or disagree with ahother. Some ‘training’ advice for you – Gloating is not a way to get a point listened to, nor is it the way to bring a suffering country together.
I prefer sour to sweet so will leave the kool aid to you….I hear it cures ugly gloating.
January 20th, 2009 15:13
Striking to me how it didn’t take long for the right to get mighty bitter about Obama.
I know you guys lost, but the least you could do is rally behind our president. Otherwise you’re just a partisan hack rallying behind a windbag.
January 20th, 2009 16:26
“Striking to me how it didn’t take long for the right to get mighty bitter about Obama.”
Not bitter, honest. – unlike the left our eyes and ears are open. As the Great American Rush Limbaugh says: “It’s the empty barrel that makes the most noise.” and B. Hussein Obama’s speech today was deafening in its emptiness.
January 20th, 2009 16:28
LOL.. Maybe he’s a secret Muslim and is gonna support Palestine!!! Oh my goodness, what if we have a Hussein Muslim in the whitehouse??? Oh no!!!
The right’s fears are so entertaining.
January 20th, 2009 16:48
I want Obama to succeed for the sake of our country. I hope he moderates his positions so that he will succeed. All I want is for everyone to treat President Obama with the same respect, tolerance and spirit of cooperation that was offered to President Bush during his term of office. Sure, Bush made mistakes and I disagreed with him on many issues. He is a human being who was in a near impossible situation. Guess what? President Obama is human too! He too will make mistakes. Somehow I suspect we will all be expected to back him and give him the chance that President Bush was never given.
January 20th, 2009 17:21
Rush supporters are making conservatives look bad, right now. Please stop.
January 20th, 2009 17:23
Amen brutha!
January 20th, 2009 17:30
Quote: “All I want is for everyone to treat President Obama with the same respect, tolerance and spirit of cooperation that was offered to President Bush during his term of office…”
You sure about that? If the public treated Obama with half of the malignment, nasty-talk, hate, and insult that Bush has endured over the last eight years we’d be branded a country full of “RAAAACISTS”.
January 20th, 2009 17:35
I don’t want him to succeed either. I don’t want to see completely open borders, a behemoth federal government that is poor on service and completely unaccountable to me, crappy, government-run health care, the homosexual agenda shoved in my face in the public square, federal spending through the roof, etc.. I mean, come on, spending our way out of a recession? Does that make sense to anyone with an IQ above that of a cat?
His agenda goes against American tradition, the concept of a free market economy, traditional Christian principles, and all of the things that make this country great. Darn right I want this agenda to fail.
January 20th, 2009 17:48
Perhaps you all don’t understand the meaning of success in this discussion. It doesn’t mean that Obama will succeed in pushing his liberal and socialistic agenda, but rather that if he succeeds, this country is prospering from the executive decisions that he has made. I don’t think that the country will flourish under his policies, but I sure hope it does, because that means good news for me and my fellow Americans.
January 20th, 2009 17:49
What a dreary sad little dump of a place. Why read the thin, shrill, uninformed and dull posts of Ms. “scholar” when I can read complex, informational, rewarding and well-crafted posts at The Corner.NationalReview? Bye.
January 20th, 2009 20:25
Even if Obama fail miserably, the the mainstream (left) media will spin it into him doing a great job. The American people were given the bait and switch (the ones that bought into all the BS) and he will do just enough to make sure he gets re-elected. If he gets a second term thats when all the crazy policies are gonna come out of the woodwork. At least he can blame Bush anymore when he’s up for re-election, but I bet he’s gonna try.
January 21st, 2009 09:35
Let’s face it. The republican party and right wingers have devolved into irrelevancy. Conservatism has had its day. It’s over. The Limbaughs of world are desperately wailing in the death throes of their demise. Once the Fairness Doctrine is re-established their incessant whining will be relegated to satellite cyberspace. which they so truly deserve. Adios right wingnuts…
January 21st, 2009 10:14
Zephyr, your commitment to the Constitutional Protection of free speech is quite commendable.
January 21st, 2009 10:50
Let’s do a dispassionate analysis of which of the above posts contained ad hominems, assertions unsupported by statements of facts, and irrelevant or immaterial statements. Gosh, looks like all the truly intelligent liberals are posting elsewhere.
January 21st, 2009 10:50
Note the left can’t defend any policies, or give specifics, for the simple reason: THERE AREN’T ANY. The only argument is name-calling. Liberalism is based on emotion, making people feel better. It is not based on any facts. Conservativism is based on fact and has succeeded in the past – why the republicans have abandoned it is beyond me. The purpose of the fairness doctrine would be an attempt to silence conservative thought because the left has no argument.
Another point made above about Obama’s success – like AIG, he’s “too big to fail”. The media will try their darned-est to not let that happen. When all the lefties find out that well into an Obama presidency, BHO isn’t paying their mortgage for them, he isn’t paying for their healthcare, and he isn’t distributing the wealth to them, perhaps there will be an uproar too big for the media to supress. We’ll see.
January 21st, 2009 11:41
Buckeye, you realize you sound like a communist right now, right? “Conservatism is great it just has failed us now, but it never really got the chance it deserves!”
Back to the breadline, comrade. A new officer is in charge, son.
January 21st, 2009 12:01
Opps, I made the assumption that “Scholar” meant someone with at least a high school degree. My sincere apologies. Please, allow me to educate. Pure communism can not exist. Socialism is the nearest thing to it. Next time at your local library, look up “USSR” and it’s collapse in 1989. Even today, did you know China censors speech? I know that is not taught in schools today.
January 21st, 2009 13:36
Heh you are so far out of your element here, it’s not even funny. One of the classic lines Marxists today use is “communism never got a chance.” This is the same exact argument you’re making with your failed conservatism. Your conservatives ushered us into the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression and you’re telling me that it’s not conservatism’s fault? Of course it is. Just as communism didn’t work not because the people implemented it incorrectly but because it has a flawed causal logic.
Do yourself a favor and see if you can get your taxes back from your high school education. You obviously didn’t learn anything.
